‘Fine Grain’ is the most common classification for B&W film developers, with some also being categorised as speed increasing. These are the all rounders – they deliver the best balance of fine grain, tonality, emulsion speed, and sharpness. As always, with black and white photography, there is a lot of sense in reducing the number of variables as much as possible – therefore, if you are new to black and white or simply looking to improve your image quality and results in general, we would recommend selecting a developer from this section and sticking with it, getting to know it in combination with a selected film type.
