Ilford Multigrade RC Deluxe is a superb all rounder
25 years after the launch of Multigrade IV RC, the NEW Multigrade [V] Deluxe was widely available from early 2020. It offers improved d-max (blacks), better mid tones, greater propensity to toning and is likely to become regarded as the most advanced traditional black and white silver gelatine paper ever made. This 5th generation, resin coated, black and white paper is ideal for beginners and professionals alike, every bit at home in the personal, college or commercial darkroom. In addition to the improved d-max, the paper is ever so slightly warmer than the old MGIV (but is not a warmtone paper). As ever, warmth can be varied considerably in processing with the choice of developer.
As a resin coated paper, it washes very quickly and will be thoroughly safe within 2 minutes under running water at between 18-24 degrees C.
Surface qualities:
- Gloss (1K) – this is a classic high gloss surface. 85% reflectance.
- Pearl (44M) – a fine lustre, very popular, and with excellent contrast. 35% reflectance.
- Satin (25M) – a very smooth flat matte surface with virtually no texture. Can do a good impression of a fine art matte FB paper! 10% reflectance
(note: our % reflectance figures are our own values in order to help surface selection, and are not scientific)
If you don’t have a darkroom in which to try this paper – there can be no better reason to put one together! Remember, a darkroom can be simply a blacked out room for a couple of hours, you don’t need a dedicated space.
