NOTE: As with all Kodak chemistry at present, there is no indication when it will be available again, if at all. This is because most Kodak chemistry was being  made by Tetenal in Germany and they ceased production and their factory was demolished in 2023. The alternative is Ilford Harman Selenium Toner – which was also being made by Tetenal (so, the formula is probably the same) but Ilford have found an alternative manufacturing partner, so supply is fine.

Kodak Rapid Selenium Toner (or, KRST for short) has been the most popular print toner with darkroom workers for decades – it was probably the toner used more than any other by Ansel Adams and he routinely selenium toned all of his prints. The effect of KRST varies with different papers, with some more responsive to tonal changes, and with different dilutions – KRST may be diluted in a variety of different strengths, commonly ranging from 1:3 to 1:19, depending on desired effects. In addition to tonal changes, KRST also acts to enhance the archival stability of silver gelatine papers, particularly fibre based prints.

Resin Coated papers (RC) may be selenium toned and will derive the same benefits as when toning fibre prints.
