Kodak XTOL  is a modern, high-performance black & white film developer that has earned a strong reputation among photographers and professional labs for its exceptional combination of fine grain, sharpness, and image quality. Patented under US Patent 5756271, XTOL represents a more recent advancement in developer chemistry, using sodium isoascorbate (a vitamin C derivative) alongside Phenidone to achieve clean working, environmentally friendlier processing.

Suitable for a wide range of films, it delivers full emulsion speed, rich tonal gradation, and excellent shadow detail, making it ideal for both enlargements and critical professional work. Supplied as a powder to make 5 litres of stock solution, XTOL can be used straight or diluted for economy and contrast control. A modern classic in B&W development.
