The Focus finders are designed to facilitate the sharp focussing of an image under the enlarger, ready for exposure. At over twice the size of the Micro Focus Finder, the Paterson Major Focus Finder is a taller instrument and enables the enlarger controls on the head, to be reached comfortably when making large prints although it is equally suitable for smaller prints down to 3.5×4.5in (9x12cm). Fully adjustable for individual eyesight.
A roll of film is placed in the image to show scale and is not included with the focus finder.
You can focus the image without a focus finder, but for reliable focusing you need this tool. Very easy to use – you look into it and adjust the enlarger focus until you see the grain of the film become sharp, like sand.
