Rollei 80S is an unusual slow speed film ideal for fine art work or as a general purpose film in bright conditions. Made in Belgium by Agfa Gevaert, the emulsion features extended red sensitivity to 750nm thus enabling infrared effects when the requisite dark red filter is employed. The film is derived from Agfa Aviphot Pan80, formulated for low to high altitude detailed mapping applications! This makes it very interesting for pictorial photography and the IR sensitivity enables penetration of haze in landscape work. The emulsion is coated onto a polyester base.
Whilst the film is rated at ISO80, based on our own tests and from what we see when processing this film for customers, we would recommend exposing at ISO50 or even 25 – of all the Rollei 80S we process for customers, empty and underexposed shadows are a common theme, indicating the film should be rated slower.
