File set up
If you are able to, it is helpful if your files are set up as follows:
- 300 DPI
- JPEG format, saved at full quality
- Sized correctly
- Colour space sRGB / Adobe RGB
- If you are unsure about these settings, send files as they are.
Complimentary image balancing
It takes a lot of experience to consistently dial out colour casts and balance sets of images uniformly – our technicians have been doing this for many years both in the darkroom and digitally. We will balance your images unless you instruct us not to.
Useful print size matches:
When ordering prints there is the risk of cropping if the size ordered is not the same length/width ratio as the image file. For example, a 35mm negative or image from a “full frame” DSLR requires cropping in order to be printed 10×8″, but not when printed 12×8″. The following is a guide for the best print size matches for no (or minimal) cropping:
- Standard 35mm / Full Frame & APS-C sensor: 6×4″; 7.5×5″; 9×6″; 12×8″; 18×12″
- Medium format 6×4.5 / many compact digitals: 6×4.5″; 7×5″; 8×6″; 12×9″; 16×12″
- Medium format 6×6: any square size!
- Medium format 6×7: 5×4″; 10×8″; 14×12″
- Medium format 6×9: 6×4″; 7.5×5″; 9×6″; 12×8″; 18×12″
About C-Type Printing
C-Type prints are those where the image is formed by light on sensitised paper. The paper can be exposed traditionally (in a darkroom) or, more commonly these days, digitally where a laser is used to expose the paper with the image. The paper is then processed in photochemistry in the traditional way. in order to deliver the best quality C-Types, considerable investment is required in equipment and a thorough understanding of the photochemical process.
“Continuous tone” means every pixel in the print can render, effectively, an infinite number of different tones. This different to inkjet/giclee where there are only a very limited number. The consequence of this is superior rendering of tonality, particularly in areas of shadow and bright highlight. As always, however, to get the most from any print, the file quality and origination quality (camera, lens, film/sensor) will have an impact.
All our Value Professional Prints are made with Fujicolor Professional Type DPII paper – possibly the finest all round silver halide photographic paper ever made. Whites are crisp and bright and the paper delivers exceptionally strong D-Max (blacks).

Fantastic quality, incredible turnaround, and great value. It’s hard to ask for anything more. I cannot recommend AG Photolab’s printing enough!

If you want TRUE photographic prints, C-Type are for you, and Ag’s are of fantastic quality, combining technical expertise and the very best materials in Fuji’s DPII paper and turnaround very fast. If you’re considering prints elsewhere, ask if they have to process them like film. If they don’t, it’d not a true C-Type!

These are incredible prints. I ordered three in total (two matte and one silk) and they all turned out amazing. The silk one has a nice feel and aesthetic to it and the two matte ones look sleek and professional with super fast service. I have used AG to develop some films before and I am definitely going to use them to print more images.
